Pauline Bloomfield

Pauline has taught printed and embroidered textiles in variety of settings over the last 20 years. The imagery within her embroideries is inspired by Southern African rock paintings, West African symbolism and the work of Gustav Klimt. The themes have always been narrative; the most recent of which have been ancient African myths and the Caribbean spiritual world.
Pauline delivered a really interesting talk which she illustrated with slides, amazing sketchbooks and amazing work.  It was fascinating to see how her work developed and to see how much work goes into each piece.
You can see and read more about Pauline on her website: www.paulineverrinder.com.

Annual AGM - 25th September 2014

The Annual Meeting of the LEG was held on 25th September 2014.  Marilyn gave her departing speech as out going Chair was thanked for all her contributions to LEG and a presentation was made.  She thanked all who has helped steer her ship for a safe passage.

Ann Rose is our new Chair for 2015 and we wish her luck as we welcome her aboard again to complete her term of Office - a mantle which we are sure she will pick up and run with with gusto.
Cakes were supplied by previous Chair people and were enjoyed at refreshment time.

Elaine Sutton supplied some photographs of an Exhibition called "Culture Threads" from a recent trip to Riga - European City of Culture.

Yvonne Brown - Threads of Life

Yvonne is a textile artist, author and teacher living in Norfolk.
she has travelled all over the UK, Ireland, Spain and New Zealand.
She comes from an art based background where her first love is painting and art history.
She is fascinated by textured surfaces using mixed media, found objects and paper.
She works mainly with a sewing machine in free-machine mode but enjoys embellishing her pieces with hand embroidery; beading and using a soldering iron and heat gun for a little bit of melting.
She dyes and paints most of her fabrics but also likes to use commercial batiks.
Looks like the group had a fascinating talk.

Wightwick Manor Trip

So what's on at Wightwick Manor?  The National Trust welcomed us the the Manor with open arms. Lutt EG had come to see the Nicola Jarvis Exhibition. The items were well displayed and good to see them in a relevant context of the Manor.  In the Manor itself was "The Forest" Tapestry by Philip Webb on loan from the V & A on view before its visit on loan to Japan.

Wightwick Manor itself was the home of the Mander family who made their fortune in paint and varnishing industry of Wolverhampton. The interior is much influenced by William Morris although he had never visited the property himself. The family collected William Morris furnishings and Pre-Raphaelite paintings. The Gardens themselves are beautiful wide lawns, yew hedges and roses.

Committee and Friends hard at work in Church Basement

Never let it be said that Committee and Friends do not work behind the scenes when not at meetings!  Here we are painting the display boards in preparation for the Feast Week Exhibition!  Bless 'um!
