Christmas meeting 2014

Elaine Sutton who won the Brenda Gibbs Bursary in 2013 talked about the Kick Start Workshop she had attended about "fold up" pictures in preparation for her project for 2015 Kick Start Nursery "Rhymes and Fairy Tales".

This was followed by a Label Making session when all members made a Christmas Label.

The evening was rounded off by an enjoyable buffet kindly supplied by the LEG Committee.

Maria Dent

Maria Dent one of our own members stepped into the breach in place of the advertised speaker for November.  Maria has her own business producing felt made items and said to be known as "the hat lady"!  She brought a number of examples of hats and wraps/scarves for us to see.  She demonstrated how to make basic felt and told us how she did some of the more "advanced" effects and techniques. Maria also does workshops.

Pauline Verrrinder Workshop

Pauline Verrinder is a Textile Artist and Tutor who is a member of Fibre fusion. Inspiration for her work comes from the beauty and diversity which surrounds her in the natural world. Having no fixed boundaries she aspires to continually stretch and evolve through exploration and experimentation.
Her teaching has taken her all over the country, the V&A in London, Europe, Australia and New Zealand.
We have been trying to book Pauline for a workshop for many years and at last it has happened.
Pauline was a generous and patient tutor and ran classes for two days.  She shared three techniques with our group and you'll find lots of photos below of what we got up to.
I'm sure there will be lots of finished pieces in next years exhibition.
We'll start with some photos of Pauline's work:

And here we are working hard:

And here is some of the work at the end of the day:

Pauline Bloomfield

Pauline has taught printed and embroidered textiles in variety of settings over the last 20 years. The imagery within her embroideries is inspired by Southern African rock paintings, West African symbolism and the work of Gustav Klimt. The themes have always been narrative; the most recent of which have been ancient African myths and the Caribbean spiritual world.
Pauline delivered a really interesting talk which she illustrated with slides, amazing sketchbooks and amazing work.  It was fascinating to see how her work developed and to see how much work goes into each piece.
You can see and read more about Pauline on her website: www.paulineverrinder.com.
