Nicola Jarvis - talk and workshop

The title of Nicola's talk was 'Her father's daughter' and was about May Morris, daughter of William Morris.
Nicola runs the Rugby Branch of the Royal School of Needlework after relocating to the Midlands in 2011.  She completed her RSN apprenticeship in 1994 and worked as a freelance embroidery designer in the British fashion industry for 8 years.  She obtained her BA Honours in Fine Art and MA in Design before being appointed Deputy Course Leader of the Foundation Degree between 2009 - 2011.
Nicola gave our branch a fascinating talk about May and how design and embroidery were an integral part of growing up in the Morris household.
Nicola showed us images from May's book 'Decorative Needlework' which May had drawn to illustrate the stitches she used.
Nicola also brought a range of items to purchase and some of her samples.
Above is Nicola in a very important role of drawing our raffle.

On Saturday members of our group attended a class with Nicola. We were all very quiet as we were concentrating very hard.
She spent the whole day ensuring we were all making progress, quite an achievement with us all working on different designs: Acorn, Sparrow, Robin and Flower.
We're hoping to be able to show you our completed work in our annual August Festival.
